The management of the Gold Coast’s Mal Meninga and Cyril Connell Cup sides has been drastically changed effective immediately.

In the past, two Gold Coast teams have competed in both the under 16s (Connell Cup) and under 18s (Meninga Cup) representative competitions played throughout South East Queensland in March & April.

One of those teams would be managed by the GCJRL as the Vikings while the other would play under the Titans brand.

From next season onwards both Gold Coast sides playing in the Connell/Meninga Cup will be controlled by a management committee set up by the South East Division of the Queensland Rugby League and play under the Vikings brand.

The committee includes stakeholders from the GCRL, GCJRL, GC Titans, Keebra Park, Palm Beach Currumbin and of course the QRL South East Division.

What this means is that the process of selection, training and playing in the competition will be controlled by the one entity rather than segregating resources like in the past.

All the players who would have been eligible in the past will still be available for selection now, however the spread of talent will be more even across the two teams as they are representing one body, not competing against each other.
